Happy Friday!

March 5th, 2010

This has been a great running week for me so far. I have just felt so peppy and motivated and really enjoyed running. Not to mention that I actually feel quite fit and my runs have been a bit faster than normal. For the rest of the week, I have five miles planned this afternoon, Saturday is my off day and then on Sunday I have a long run of 17 miles on the schedule. That would bring me to a total of 46 miles, the most of I’ve run in a week so far this training schedule. And probably several years to be perfectly honest. I used to average around 40-50 miles/week back in college, but that was a good 4 or 5 years ago.

I think this week’s long run is going to go much better than last week’s, although I’m not sure yet where I’m going to run. The longest running loop that I have in town is 10 miles, so I could do that, plus a shorter 7 mile loop – or I could try to stretch out the 10 mile loop by adding some different roads that I haven’t run on before. Decisions, decisions.  I’m still undecided about my fuel belt too. I like having the water with me while I’m running, but I hate wearing it!

Sleep has unfortunately been a problem this week. I have a hard time falling asleep and then I wake up over and over and over again through the night, tossing and turning and I just cannot seem to get comfortable. Add to that mix a bunch of cats draped all over me or randomly deciding that 3:30am is loud purr and cuddle time, certainly isn’t helping. But, I’ll get through it, even if it means kicking the cats out of the bedroom. And in the mean time, there’s always coffee.

Well, that’s all I’ve got… But there are some exciting things coming in the mail for me that I want to post about soon.

Warmer Weather

March 2nd, 2010

It’s been nice in WI these past few days! I’ve actually seen the sun! Little bits of grass next to the sidewalk are visible now, which is pretty exciting considering that the ground has been snow covered since the beginning of December.

So these few hints of Spring and temperatures that have actually hit above freezing (just barely, but let’s count it anyway), mean the grand return of such amazing things like SHORTS! I love running in shorts. Running capris are okay, I wore them out running today since it was around 30  degrees when I left for my run. But nothing beats running in shorts after a long frigid winter of running tights.

Speaking of runs, I had a glorious 8 mile run today in 68 minutes and change or 8:33/mile. I feel fast! I like it. I realize, I’m not exactly going to break any speed records here, but I’m feeling in shape and it’s such a nice rewarding feeling. Maybe I’ll actually PR in some races this year. It could in fact happen!

Well, that’s all I’ve got, maybe I’ll come up with something a little more interesting tomorrow. Or I’ll actually take some photos while I’m out for my run, so I can cut down on all this tl;dr stuff.

Intro

February 4th, 2010

See this is the thing, I love reading blogs, running blogs, food blogs, style blogs (the list does go on), but not maintaining my own blog means that feel a little bit like a creeper. I want to be one of the cool kids! So, this is probably the third blog that I have started, but hey third time’s the charm, right?

I had a hard time figuring out what kind of blog I wanted to create, I do love my food bloggies (Sup Snackface?,  Sup PB&J?), so that was an option. But running is my thang and I think this is a good outlet for me to ramble on about running and hold me accountable for running consistently. I might still post some meals and such on occasion, but only if they are super awesome.

I should probably give some of the requisite introductory materials. Well my name is Julie and I’m a twenty-something runner. I first started running the summer before I started high school, and I have been running ever since. Well, pretty much ever since, I have had a few set backs and I hardly ran at all during grad school. I do post my training on the Daily Mile so you can check that if you want and be my friend!

I am currently training for a spring marathon – in particular, the Wisconsin Marathon in Kenosha on May 1st. I’m about 12/13 weeks out and pretty much making my training up as I go along, which is not the smartest thing I’ve ever done, but unfortunately, probably not the dumbest either. I would like to attempt a sub-4, so around a 9:00 min per mile average would be most excellent.

So here is my blog, I plan to post daily-ish updates and hopefully no one will be so bored that they start throwing rocks in my general direction.
