Upcoming…
Trailbreaker 1/2 Marathon this weekend! I’m so excited that I haven’t been too productive lately. Longer post to come, I just feel bad not posting regularly.

So, I know I’m running the Wisconsin Marathon on May 1st, but I’ve been thinking about what other races I want to incorporate into my running plan.
I would absolutely love to get my 5k PR down – I don’t think my current PR (24:24 if I have my records straight) is anywhere near my potential. Especially considering my 10K pr is 48:50, almost exactly 2x’s my 5k PR. Crazy. So, I think planning one or two spring 5ks would be a good idea, as well as concentrating on them more over the summer. Aside from high school cross country, I really haven’t run very many races over my running career.
So here are two races I’m thinking about incorporating in my spring training plan:
The Blarney Run 5k– Saturday, March 13th 2010 at 12:00 AM
South Shore Half Marathon – Saturday, April 10th 2010 at 8:30 AM
My only problem with the 5k is that it’s the same day as my next group run and I really love going to group runs. It’s not a huge deal missing them – I work some Saturdays, including this one, so I can’t always make it – but I really enjoy them! It’s all about meeting people, camaraderie, and faster paced runs than I usually manage on my own. But, I think I could benefit from the 5k, even if it does mean running 18 miles the next day.
The 1/2 Marathon should be good, it’s a very low-key club race ($10 entry fee!) and I’ll probably add on 7 miles afterwards, since I’m scheduled to my last 20 mile run that weekend. I would like to run it for speed and see how well I could do, but I think doing my last 20 mile run before the marathon is more important.
Just nine weeks until the marathon! I’m scheduled for today as my off day, but I don’t work today and the temp may in fact reach a very nice 35*F – which is probably the warmest I’ve seen since November. Shorts weather! I don’t think I can say no to a short recovery run in that kind of weather.
